Choosing an estate agent involves comparing the service and contract as well as the advertised price. A headline fee is a starting point for questions, not a complete quotation.
Read the current offer
At our October 2026 review, Purplebricks advertised sales from £999 with nothing payable upfront. Its website described photography, a floor plan, portal advertising and sales progression among the service features. Confirm the written offer for your property: a starting price does not establish every seller’s final cost.
Ask what you will do
Clarify who conducts viewings, handles enquiries and follows up the transaction. Ask how you will receive updates and who takes responsibility when a problem needs attention. Match those arrangements to the time you can provide.
Compare like with like
Request written quotations with VAT, optional services and payment triggers clearly identified. Check the terms if the property does not sell, you withdraw it or change agent. Compare the same scope of service across providers.
Keep expectations grounded
An advertised valuation or claimed saving is not a guaranteed sale outcome. Review the evidence supporting the proposed asking price and agree how marketing performance will be assessed. This is a service-checking guide, not an endorsement or a personalised fee quotation.
