The UK economy grew by an estimated 0.1% in August 2026, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics on 15 October. July’s monthly growth estimate remained at 0.4%.

Construction remains weaker

Construction output fell 0.2% in August. Across the three months to August, it was 1.0% lower than in the three months to May. The wider economy grew 0.7% over that three-month comparison.

Services expanded over the three-month period, while production and construction contracted. Looking at August alone, production increased and services were unchanged.

Read the figures in context

Monthly and three-month figures describe different comparisons. They should not be treated as interchangeable measures of momentum. The ONS also cautions that early GDP estimates can change as additional information becomes available.

These figures describe economic output. They do not, by themselves, establish what will happen to an individual property’s value, mortgage pricing or the next Bank of England decision.
