Barratt Redrow reduced its planned land investment in a trading update published on 15 April 2026, while retaining its forecast for annual housing completions.
The housebuilder expected to approve 7,000–9,000 plots for purchase during its financial year, compared with its earlier range of 10,000–12,000. It forecast land expenditure of £700 million–£800 million, down from £800 million–£900 million. These were management expectations at the time, rather than completed purchases.
The group attributed its greater selectivity to economic uncertainty, potential mortgage-rate effects and construction-cost pressures. It also reported fewer attractive land opportunities and said its existing land bank supported a more restrained approach.
For the 13 weeks to 29 March, total completions were 3,274 homes, including joint ventures. Full-year guidance remained 17,200–17,800 homes.
The distinction matters: buying fewer plots for future development does not itself establish that the company had cut its current-year completion target. The announcement described different decisions affecting different stages of its development pipeline.
This archive report reflects the April announcement. Its forecasts should be read in that historical context, rather than treated as current guidance or confirmed outcomes.
