The date an advert first appeared is only one part of a rental search. Location, suitability and the landlord’s current response matter too.

What OpenRent says

In its July 2026 explanation, OpenRent said it did not offer a newest-first sorting option. It described this as a deliberate choice, linked to landlords managing their listings directly and removing them when a tenancy is agreed. That is the platform’s explanation, not an independent guarantee about every advert.

Set a useful alert

OpenRent says saved searches can generate email alerts for new matching properties. Choose criteria that reflect your actual requirements, then review the matches. An alert tells you a listing exists; it does not reserve the home or confirm an application will succeed.

Keep enquiries organised

Record which homes you contacted, the response and any viewing arrangements. Check availability directly before travelling. Use the advert’s details to ask specific questions rather than sending an identical message to every landlord.

Review the shortlist

Avoid rejecting a suitable home solely because its advert is older. Equally, a newly listed property still needs the same careful assessment. Check the current interface because platform features can change.
