A September 2023 Rightmove feature explained an announced increase in financial support for heat pumps in England and Wales. The change was due to take effect on 23 October 2023 under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. The government’s dated notice confirms that air-source and ground-source grants were both increased to £7,500.

Before the change, the relevant grant amounts had been £5,000 for air-source systems and £6,000 for ground-source systems. Moving both to the same level altered the contribution available towards qualifying installations. These are historical scheme amounts, rather than a statement that every applicant can receive the same support today.

The original article described an installer-led process. An eligible installation and the scheme’s requirements mattered alongside the homeowner’s interest in changing heating. The announcement was not a universal payment for purchasing any product described as a heat pump.

Rightmove also included an illustrative installation-cost comparison. A broad average cannot determine the price of work at a particular home, so its projected household contribution is not repeated here as a quotation. Equipment, building requirements and associated works can differ, even when the grant headline is the same.

Geography was another important limit. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme announcement concerned England and Wales. The article referred separately to support in Scotland; combining those arrangements into a single UK entitlement would obscure the fact that they were different schemes.

The distinction between equipment cost and operating cost also remains relevant when reading the archive. A contribution to installation does not establish the future bill, suitability or performance of the system. Those outcomes were not guaranteed by the grant increase itself.

This retrospective records the policy change announced in September and implemented in October 2023. It preserves the date so that the article is not mistaken for a current application guide. The government’s historical notice is available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/boiler-upgrade-scheme-changes-to-grant-levels . Anyone investigating a project now needs the current official scheme conditions and a property-specific quotation, rather than an archived estimate of the amount left to pay.
