Rightmove’s May 2023 most-viewed homes selection explored contrasting ideas of a remarkable property. A secluded country house, a contemporary leisure-focused home and a major restoration prospect all appeared. The feature, published in June, is best read as a record of architectural curiosity rather than a guide to current listings.
Kinsteary House in Scotland represented the traditional country-estate setting. The source dated the house to the eighteenth century and described nineteen acres of gardens, lawns and woodland. Its two wings faced a south-facing terrace, while a gardener’s cottage formed part of the wider accommodation.
A modern Glasgow house offered a different visual language. Large windows, marble finishes and a curved staircase featured in the description. A pool, steam room, sauna and hot tub placed leisure facilities at the centre of its presentation, rather than the older building details emphasised elsewhere in the list.
The Devon example paired a coastal position with a substantial estate. Rightmove described an eleven-bedroom house within approximately seventy-seven acres and direct access to the beach. Its architectural character and seaward setting worked together in the account; neither the boundary arrangements nor access rights have been independently reassessed for this retrospective.
A West Sussex home on the edge of the South Downs added extensive gardens, a court and a pool. The source described restored period features and areas of planting and woodland. The interest was the combination of the house with outdoor spaces intended for different uses.
The final example was a castle restoration project on Fetlar in Shetland. Its forty-acre setting and coastal views helped explain the browsing interest, but the feature did not supply a complete works specification. Attention from viewers is not evidence that a restoration is straightforward, affordable or suitable for a particular buyer.
Across the selection, the landscape was often as prominent as the building. Woodland, terraces, shoreline and formal gardens created different experiences of space. This archive preserves those descriptions without carrying forward old asking prices or implying present availability. It records what caught attention in spring 2023, rather than establishing the condition or value of any property today.
