Rightmove’s June 2023 most-viewed feature brought together striking settings and ambitious interiors. The preserved account includes four examples: a contemporary home in Middlesbrough, a lodge-style house in the Scottish Borders, a former mill in Cumbria and a waterside building in St Albans. Their differences are more revealing than a single description of luxury.
The Middlesbrough property emphasised open-plan living and leisure facilities. Rightmove highlighted a soundproofed music studio, bar and cinema, alongside large windows facing the countryside. The garden contained a pool and hot tub. The source’s bedroom references were inconsistent, so this retrospective does not rely on a bedroom count for that example.
Near West Linton, the Scottish Borders house drew on a lodge-like appearance, with substantial use of walnut and oak. An elevated terrace looked across the surrounding woodland, while large windows brought light into the main living space. The source also described geothermal and underfloor heating, without providing an independent assessment of their performance.
The Cumbrian example was a Grade II-listed former mill near Lupton. Its history reached back to the fourteenth century, and the account said it remained a working mill until 1968. Contemporary features included a roof-lit kitchen and glass balcony, while woodland, a river-facing terrace and a boat house connected the building with its setting.
In St Albans, a home featured on Grand Designs presented a different relationship with water. Set beside the River Ver, it was described with gardens, abbey views and a long atrium. Automated controls formed part of the listing, but the archive does not verify the present state or compatibility of those systems.
These examples illustrate why browsing attention is not simply a ranking by floor area or age. Materials, views, history and unusual internal spaces each gave a viewer something distinctive to explore. The preserved source does not contain every item from the original ranking, and no missing property is reconstructed here.
This is a historical design feature, not an invitation to buy. The descriptions belong to summer 2023; asking prices, current availability and condition are not asserted.
