The Coalsnaughton housing emergency led to 97 properties being evacuated in May 2026, according to Clackmannanshire Council's subsequent account.

The May evacuation sequence

The council recorded suspected ground movement at Benbuck View on 18 May, followed by further evacuations at Dunmoss View on 27 May and Nechtan Drive and Langour on 29 May. Its account states that homes in the initial affected street were evacuated safely.

Subsequent update: 25 August 2026

The council's August statement reported the Mining Remediation Authority's conclusion that subsidence associated with historic coal mining was the most probable primary cause. This later finding should not be confused with what was known during the first evacuations.

The authority was taking responsibility for remediation and acting as the main contact for property access and insurance matters. Tenant engagement would take place through landlords. The council said the incident had moved into its recovery phase on 5 August.
