Hampshire Trust Bank has appointed Waqar Khan as business development manager for the North West, according to a Mortgage Strategy report published on 3 November 2026.
Khan moves from LendInvest, where his regional responsibilities covered the North West and North Wales. The report says his intermediary work included buy-to-let, bridging and residential mortgages. His earlier experience includes business development at Aldermore and relationship-management and mortgage-team roles at Lloyds Banking Group.
At HTB, Khan will report to Danny Kiely, head of sales for specialist mortgages and bridging finance. He will have his own regional broker portfolio and work alongside regional account director Wes Baker, who retains relationships within his existing network. The announcement is about the bank’s distribution team, rather than a change to lending criteria or a new mortgage product.
What the appointment means for intermediaries
For a broker handling a specialist property case, knowing the correct regional contact can make the initial conversation more focused. A useful approach is to establish who owns the enquiry, what information is needed for an early assessment and where a case should be directed once it proceeds.
Prepare a concise case summary before seeking an indication. It should explain the property, the applicant’s circumstances, the proposed borrowing and any unusual feature that needs discussion. Clearly distinguish confirmed information from assumptions still awaiting evidence. This allows the conversation to focus on the actual points needing a lender’s view.
Keep relationship support separate from approval
A business development conversation can clarify the lender’s approach, but a helpful discussion is not itself a mortgage offer. Brokers should record any qualifications and check how the formal application, valuation and underwriting stages may affect the case.
For borrowers, the relevant questions remain practical: which lender is being considered, why it suits the proposed transaction, what costs are involved and which conditions remain unresolved? A regional appointment should not be presented as a guarantee of acceptance or faster completion.
Khan’s arrival adds a named contact to HTB’s North West intermediary team. The value for property professionals will be in clear case preparation and communication with the people responsible for progressing an application. Anyone considering finance should rely on the current written terms and appropriate advice, rather than drawing product conclusions from a staffing announcement.
